A student at Jamaica College was left with a broken nose and multiple other injuries after he was reportedly attacked by a group of boys on the school’s compound last Tuesday, in an incident that has intensified concerns about bullying among students.
The injured teen, a fourth-form student, has since been recovering at home while undergoing medical treatment. His mother says the attack has been both physically and emotionally devastating, especially given that her son had already been facing ongoing teasing since enrolling at the school just over a year ago. She claims he was often targeted because of his accent and hairstyle, which made him stand out among his peers.
Recounting the incident, the student explained to TVJ News that he was heading to the canteen during his lunch break when he was approached by a group of boys. They reportedly told him he had dropped money, prompting him to pick it up. Moments later, another student confronted him, insisting the cash belonged to him.

“He tried to pull the money from my hand. He was pushing me in the chest, and I kept yelling at him, telling him to get away from me,” the victim said. Though the victim insisted that the money belonged to him, the confrontation continued.
He said when he te tried to be more aggressive, the situation turned violent as the student struck him in the face. Within seconds, he claims several other boys joined in, surrounding him and launching a coordinated attack.
He described being hit repeatedly, including blows that left his nose broken and caused injuries around his eye. The situation worsened when he was pulled to the ground, where he says he continued to be beaten while trying to shield himself. He also reported that his hair was pulled during the ordeal.

The attack was eventually brought to the attention of school officials by other students who witnessed what happened. He was taken to the school’s nurse for immediate care before being referred for further medical evaluation.
His mother outlined the extent of his injuries, noting that diagnostic tests confirmed the fracture to his nose and damage to his eye, with additional specialist visits required. She also highlighted the financial burden, explaining that medical expenses have been mounting steadily since the incident.
“I have no idea where this mountain of medical expenses is going to take us, and this was all thrust upon me in a moment…I have spent close to $100,000 since Tuesday on X-rays, CT scan, doctor visits, ophthalmologist,” his mother said.
Beyond the injuries, she questioned the level of supervision and safety on the school grounds, expressing concern about reports that similar altercations happen frequently.
One student has since been charged in relation to the incident and is expected to face the court. Meanwhile, school officials say the matter is under review as part of their internal disciplinary process.
