A video capturing a daring supermarket robbery in St Jams has been circulating on social media. The footage shows a group of armed men staging a daylight heist on July 20, 2025, at a supermarket reportedly located on Barnett Street in Montego Bay. Social media users have identified the supermarket’s location as being near Top Mart and just a stone’s throw from a nearby police station.
The footage, initially posted by the Instagram page This Is A Blast, begins with four masked men. Among the group, one is visibly armed with a rifle and another with a handgun. They direct individuals outside the store to go inside, and once inside, the men take control of the premises, holding customers and staff at gunpoint. The cashier, clearly shaken, is seen complying with one of the robbers’ demands to open the register, while others searched the store.
After taking the cash from the register, the thief turns his attention to the beverages on display behind her and begins taking bottles from the shelves. At one point, shouts are heard from an Asian man off-camera, prompting one of the perpetrators to tell his accomplice to “carry di gun come.”
The accomplice with the handgun seemingly heads to where the shouts came from, and the heist continued. The robbery came to an unexpected halt when one of the gunmen’s rifles accidentally discharged inside the store. The sudden explosion caused visible panic and forced the men to flee. As they scrambled out, one of the suspects lingered behind to retrieve what appeared to be some cash that fell on the floor. A fellow accomplice briefly returned, urging him to hurry.
The robbers made off with an unknown amount of cash and also left with two bottles of rum and a big bottle of Boom energy drink. The video, widely circulated on Thursday, has not yet prompted an official statement from the police, and the date and time of the incident remain unclear. It is also unknown if anyone was hurt during the incident.
