Footage has been released of Atlanta police rushing into a burning building to evacuate residents. The residential property was burning along Woodward and Hill Street. The incident was captured on an officer’s bodycam, and the footage was shared online by The New York Post. The video clearly shows the incident occurred during the daytime; the exact time is unclear.
The news outlet cited a report from the Atlanta Police that said all the residents were safely evacuated from the burning building. In the footage, an officer in the area becomes aware of the fire after locals inform him, and he radios it. The policeman, a short distance away, sees the bellowing smoke as he approaches and quickly runs to the building. He radios in again, reporting that people are inside.
Several people are standing outside, some appear to have exited the building. Another officer is also present at the scene, and they are told that persons are still inside their rooms. The officers charge into the building, and as the footage continues, more police are seen inside the smoke-filled property trying to get the residents out.
They are heard coughing as they struggle to breathe from the smoke while calling the residents to get out.
Despite the officers calling and telling them that there is a fire, some of the residents seem to hesitate to leave.
An officer was also heard telling a resident that she wants him out of the house regardless of what he has because she is unconcerned about it. At one point, fire can be seen on what appears to be a door while most of the property is engulfed in smoke.
Eventually, the police got everyone out of the building before the video concluded. It is unclear if the residents were attempting to save their valuables before the fire spread throughout the house.
