Beenie Man has been facing criticism for persistently claiming to be the reigning King of Dancehall. Many social media users and members of the music industry have shared their thoughts on who is the current King of Dancehall, but the debate continues to spark heated discussions. After Beenie Man shared a congratulatory video on Instagram that was a sneak diss targeting Vybz Kartel, he received backlash online. He was considered “badmind” and hateful by many social media users, including Vybz Kartel.
However, Beenie Man’s fiancée, Camille McIntosh, has addressed the debate in a lengthy social media post. She defended Beenie Man’s legacy and made it clear that no one could compete with him by saying, “He can never surpass or overshadow Beenie Man, especially while Beenie is still here, actively shining bright.” While she acknowledged Vybz Kartel as a legend, she stated that Beenie Man “represents the heart of Jamaica” and “the world adores him.”
She stated that Beenie Man paved the way for many artists, and he “is forever known as the King of Dancehall, a title that resonates deeply.”
Additionally, she indicated that Bob Marley won the Best Reggae Album Grammy because his legacy and impact on the world are unmatched. “When it comes to the greatest of all time, Bob Marley stands unmatched. It’s tough for a dancehall album to eclipse a reggae album at the Grammys, especially when both genres are up against each other,” she wrote.
The post featured a picture of Beenie Man seated while sporting a purple suit. The post was not well received by a majority of social media users as they criticised her for indicating that the crown can never be passed on to another.
