A Beryllium driver is on the run after stealing millions from the company in what appears to be a carefully planned inside job. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect following a criminal complaint filed by the security firm’s management.
Reports indicate that the St Andrew Central Police received the criminal complaint. The driver allegedly stole over $15 million over the weekend, according to the report.
According to reports, a Beryllium team of three members was on duty on Saturday around 9 a.m. when the incident happened. The team stopped at an Automated Banking Machine (ABM) at the MegaMart Superstore on Waterloo Road, St Andrew.
While they were there to service the machine, a 32-year-old driver was left inside the armoured truck while the others went inside to complete the transaction. When the other security guards returned to the vehicle, they discovered it was empty, as the driver was gone.
Their initial assumption that he may have stepped away briefly was quickly dismissed when security checks revealed something unusual. Reviewing the store’s surveillance footage revealed the driver exiting the front of the truck carrying a backpack. The suspect is heading to the back of the vehicle with the bag and then re-entering the front.
Moments later, he was seen exiting the vehicle with the same bag before leaving the area entirely. The discovery raised immediate alarm among his colleagues, especially after they found that he had left behind his company uniform and the firearm assigned to him. The bag he carried during his final exit is believed to have contained the stolen cash.
Beryllium’s management swiftly reported the matter to the police, and a search operation was launched. Investigators later went to the suspect’s home in Linstead, St Catherine, but he was not there. Repeated attempts to contact him by phone have also proven unsuccessful.
