A 35-year-old man from North Carolina who claims to be “blind” was arrested for allegedly murdering three men. The suspect, identified as Kevin Musser, called the police on March 18, reporting a shooting incident at a house in Clarkton, according to a social media post by a Bladen County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
Musser initially identified himself as a “blind” man named “Randy” on a 22-minute-long 911 call. He told the dispatcher the victims were “beyond help” while he said he was injured with a gunshot wound to the hand, NBC affiliate WECT reported.
Musser was found at the front door when first responders arrived. He was wearing bloody clothing, and the police saw him clutching a handgun. According to reports, he tried to leave the scene after the police arrived by closing the door and attempting to go through the back door, but law enforcement quickly intercepted him.
Inside the house, police discovered three bodies with multiple stab wounds, a grim detail that pointed to an intensely violent encounter. The BCSO reported that the deceased were identified as 62-year-old Daniel Dennis, 54-year-old Randy Benton, and 32-year-old Phillip Palmer.
Musser, who had “life-threatening injuries,” was airlifted to a local hospital. He was later questioned by the Criminal Investigation Division and charged with three counts of first-degree. He is also facing charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of methamphetamine.
Additional allegations include theft, as Musser is accused of stealing a victim’s wallet, according to Law & Crime. People reported that Musser is in custody at the Bladen County Detention Centre without bond.
Sheriff Jim McVicker stressed that despite the disturbing nature of the incident, Clarkton remains a safe community. “I just want to make it real clear to the community that everything is safe in Clarkton… we have no reason to believe there’s any harm to anybody,” he affirmed.
As the investigation unfolds, questions remain regarding Musser’s motives, the connection between him and the victims and how the injuries were inflicted.
