A quiet evening at a Portmore bar turned chaotic on Monday night, August 4, after armed robbers stormed the establishment and made off with valuables from both patrons and staff. The incident, which occurred in St Catherine, was captured on security footage and emerged on Tuesday.
The video, originally posted by the This Is A Blast Instagram page, begins with at least three people seated at the bar near a row of slot machines. Moments later, a small group is ushered further into the bar seemingly ny the robbers. There appear to be three robbers, and while two of them concealed their identities with masks, one had no face covering.
Of the three assailants, only one was visibly armed with a handgun, as shown clearly in the footage. During the video, all three appeared to be actively involved in the robbery, taking items from the bar and demanding valuables from the patrons.
A young girl is seen among those targeted, with a woman, believed to be her mother, bravely shielding her throughout the ordeal. Her protective instinct has drawn praise online. One viewer commented, “The lady in the red blouse, she protected the blue blouse with her all.”
While it’s unclear exactly what was stolen, it’s believed the thieves fled with phones, a tablet, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
In response to the video, some viewers questioned the calmness of certain individuals in the video, especially a man in pink shorts who barely moved during the incident. Others expressed frustration at the rising trend of robbing working-class citizens.
Among the comments, one user wrote, “Robbing poor people is wack!!” While there is limited information available about the incident, there have been no reports of injuries. The robbers are believed to be still at large.
Authorities have not yet issued a statement, but with one suspect unmasked, many hope arrests will follow soon.
