Shocking footage was shared online, showing the moment a Brazilian woman’s phone burst into flames while in her pocket. The incident occurred in a supermarket in Anápolis, Brazil, on Saturday. The store’s surveillance camera captures the woman and her husband browsing items during busy hours.
The video quickly changes from a nice day of shopping to a terrifying scene when the woman’s pants burst into flames, causing the woman to frantically jump. With the flames engulfing her pants, the woman begins running while her husband attempts to extinguish the flames.
The couple disappeared from the camera’s view, but the struggle continued outside. According to a report from the Daily Mail, the woman ran outside, and her husband chased her. Several bystanders also rushed to help her when she was on the street.
The fire was finally extinguished when her husband, Mateus Lima, used his shirt. She sustained first- and second-degree burns in multiple places, such as her hand, forearm, back, and buttocks. She had to be treated at the Alfredo Abraão Hospital. The report also noted that her hair was also partially burnt.
Speaking to Brazilian news outlet G1, Liam explained that the incident traumatised his wife. “She is quite traumatised. I speak more to raise awareness because many people have children, and this is very dangerous. So, it is good to be alert because just like it happened to her, it can happen to other people,” he said.
According to Liam, the cellphone is a Moto E32 that they were still making payments on. They had purchased it only one year ago. In response to the incident, Motorola released a statement, expressing that the company contacted the woman. The statement also mentioned that they were looking into what caused the phone to burst into flames.
The statement went on to reassure customers that the company prioritises the “safety of its consumers” and that “all of its products are carefully designed and manufactured.”
