A woman was shot almost a dozen times by a policeman she once dated in a disturbing murder-suicide incident. The woman was killed at her place of employment on Tuesday evening in Colombia, and the surveillance footage has since been released.
The baffling incident occurred in the Quintas del Sur community, Ciudad Bolívar, where the victim, Yesica Paola Chávez Bocanegra, worked at a beauty salon, according to local officials. The 26-year-old nail technician was attending to a client when her ex-boyfriend entered the business place.
Authorities identified the killer as Andrés Julián Meza Ramírez, an active-duty officer of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police. In the video, he can be seen approaching Bocanegra with a motorcycle helmet on. He stops when he is close to her and withdraws a firearm, prompting Bocanegra’s client to run away.
The Colombian policeman discharges his weapon at Bocanegra without uttering a word to her, leading others in the salon to scamper out of the salon. He fires several shots at her, emptying the magazine, which he reloads and fires more shots. Afterwards, the 36-year-old officer, who had removed his helmet, turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head.
According to a report, the firearm used in the murder-suicide is the officer’s service weapon. Lieutenant Colonel John Fernando Díaz, an operational commander of citizen security, said in a statement that the victim was taken to a medical centre, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.
The report details that the woman was shot at least 10 times. The report also indicated that the officer committed the murder-suicide because the woman refused to rekindle their relationship.
The relationship reportedly ended due to the physical and psychological violence that Bocanegra endured while with Bogotá. According to reports, Officer Bogotá had a criminal history of domestic violence in 2019 and 2024.
