A man’s corpse was found inside an abandoned vehicle in St. Elizabeth on Wednesday morning. The discovery was made along the Redding Road in Lacovia, prompting an investigation. Police have not yet identified the man, whose body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when they found it.
Preliminary reports say officers were called to the scene sometime between 10:00 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. after receiving a report about a body. The police were contacted by residents who became suspicious about a motor car after noticing flies gathering around the vehicle. According to the report, the residents decided to investigate the car, which was parked along the roadway, and that was when they saw the body inside.
When police arrived on the scene, the vehicle was inspected, and the area was secured for investigation. Police identified the car as a Mazda Premacy that did not have registration plates attached. Police confirmed that the corpse was a badly decomposed man and removed the body from the scene.
No official cause of death has been established at this time, but a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out to determine how the man died.
Footage obtained by Moon 10 shows the condition of the body at the time it was discovered. In the video, the corpse is seen lying on the back passenger seat inside the car. The body appears to be very swollen, consistent with decomposition. Although the man was fully clothed, his genital area was exposed. This detail has raised questions among members of the public about the circumstances of his death.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the death involved foul play. The Santa Cruz Criminal Investigation Branch is leading the investigation. Officers are working to determine how long the body may have been inside the vehicle and whether the man died at the location or was placed there afterwards.
