A deeply unsettling video making rounds on social media shows the tense moments after a man became trapped between a subway train and the platform in New York City. The clip was reportedly filmed over the weekend.
According to witnesses in the footage, the man had been down on the tracks when he spotted an oncoming train. Witnesses did not mention his reason for being on the tracks but said he rushed toward the platform in a desperate attempt to save himself.
However, the train struck him before he could make it up. The impact left him pinned against the platform’s edge. In the video, police officers can be seen on the scene, while the train’s doors remain shut with passengers still inside.
The person recording captures the man, who occasionally moves. The bystander also turns his focus on the shaken train operator. The witness can be heard speaking calmly to the distressed driver, urging her to breathe and reminding her that the tragedy was not her fault. Officers eventually took over the situation.
The man’s condition remains unknown, and his identity has not been confirmed. No official statement has been released about the exact time the incident took place. However, WorldStar Hip Hop, which shared the video, reported it occurred the same day two separate fatal subway accidents happened in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Reports say a man died after falling onto the southbound tracks at Sutter Avenue Station in East New York. The victim was struck by an L train around 6 p.m. About an hour later, a similar incident happened in East Broadway Station on the Lower East Side.
The individual fell on the tracks and succumbed to injuries sustained from a train entering the station. The identities of those involved in the weekend’s subway tragedies have not yet been released as investigations continue.
