A female doctor was killed and six others injured after an out-of-control school bus ploughed into eight vehicles at a traffic light in India. The harrowing collision unfolded Monday evening in Bhopal. The incident occurred when the school bus was heading towards Banganga Square. The bus, which had departed Roshanpura, was caught on a nearby security camera, and the footage has been circulating on the internet.
Officials said the bus collided with traffic due to what appeared to be brake failure. Before the collision, the driver attempted to warn those ahead of him by repeatedly yelling at them to “move apart”, according to a report. However, the bus could not be halted in time. Between 10 and 12 vehicles were waiting at the traffic light when the bus careened into them from behind.
The disturbing video shows the bus colliding with traffic at Bhanpur Crossing. The bus rammed into a woman on a scooter, identified as an intern doctor, and trapped under the front of the bus. As the bus continued to charge forward, the doctor was dragged approximately fifty feet with her scooter. Eventually, her scooter was flung clear from the bus. The doctor went under the front wheel and did not survive, per reports.
Authorities revealed that the deceased, Ayesha Khan, was a BAMS doctor from Mulla Colony who was completing her internship at JP Hospital. Khan had departed the hospital and was on her way home when the accident occurred.
Six other people who were at the traffic light suffered injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Two remain in critical condition, police said. According to reports, the bus driver, whose identity has not been revealed, abandoned the vehicle immediately after the crash and fled the scene. Police have launched a search to locate him and are conducting a detailed examination of the bus to confirm mechanical faults.
