Baffling footage of an elderly woman being run over by a bus in Mexico was released online. The victim, identified as 84-year-old Ixtenzi N., was fatally struck by a public transportation bus just seconds after stepping off it.
The tragic incident unfolded Sunday morning in the San Rafael Tepatlaxco community of Chiautempan. The victim disembarked from a Tepatlaxco-Tlaxcala route bus, bearing license plate number 19, around 9:30 a.m. on Libertad Street, according to a report.
The elderly woman began walking towards Reforma Street, and just as she was making her way across, the very bus that had dropped her off struck her down and ran her over.
In the surveillance footage, Ixtenzi was cautious when crossing the street, as she can be seen looking to her left and to her right, appearing to check for oncoming traffic. The bus remained parked, and she started crossing.
Before the woman makes it across, the driver starts driving the bus onto Reforma Street. The driver is seemingly oblivious that the elderly mexican woman is directly in front of the vehicle and strikes her down when she makes it to the middle of the street. KrudPlug reported that the vehicle’s right-side wheels ran her over and dragged her several feet before coming to a stop.
Realising he had hit someone, the driver exits the vehicle and discovers that the victim is the same passenger he had transported just moments earlier.
Paramedics arrived and found the woman still alive but in critical condition. She was rushed to Tlaxcala’s IMSS General Hospital Zone No. 1, per the report. Despite the urgent response, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving.
According to the report, doctors cited multiple traumatic injuries, including fractures to her left femur, tibia, fibula, and pelvis. Authorities have not yet released details about whether the bus driver will face charges.
