Crime and violence continue to creep into schools, raising concerns about the safety of children. The latest violence on school grounds is a fatal shooting in Wisconsin. The tragedy claimed three lives and injured seven others at a private Christian school on Monday morning.
Reports state that the shooter is suspected to be a student who opened fire at individuals at Abundant Life Christian School the week before Christmas break. Abundant Life Christian School is a K-12 school, and reports state that around 390 students are attending the institution.
Madison police informed news outlets that the shooter died, and they are believed to be among the two deceased. There were no details provided regarding the victims apart from their injuries being described as
“minor to life-threatening” by Madison police. No information was provided regarding the shooter aside from police suspicion that they committed suicide after shooting individuals. The police noted that when they responded to an alert regarding the shooting sometime after 11:00 a.m., the officers did not fire their weapons.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes emphasised how sad the situation is that has affected the entire county. Chief Barnes said, “They found the person responsible who was down, deceased.”According to a report, investigators believe a 9mm pistol was used by the shooter. Following the incident, the roads around the school were blocked by the authorities, and federal agents were present.
In a statement released by the Governor of Wisconsin, Tony Evers, he said, “We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
According to reports, officials from the White House also contacted Wisconsin law enforcement after President Joe Biden was briefed about the shooting.
