A woman has been arrested as the hunt to uncover all those involved in the fatal attack on a policeman’s family continues. The suspect is believed to be the mastermind behind last Saturday night’s ambush that led to the death of an officer’s wife.
The initial report said that his spouse and child were shot and killed during the attack, but the latest news report confirms the son remains hospitalised in critical condition. The female suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday, while another suspect was fatally shot during an alleged standoff with police, according to the Jamaica Observer.
The woman was identified as a business associate of the officer who was targeted. A source in the Jamaica Constabulary Force informed the news outlet that police received information leading them to a guest house in Red Ground, Hanover.
The woman was discovered at the guest house by officers around 2:00 p.m. and was subsequently arrested. The source stated that the woman will “no doubt” be charged in connection with the incident, although the investigation is ongoing.
The other suspect was fatally shot during a confrontation on Wednesday when security forces discovered him in Long Store Road, Salt Spring, Hanover. Police recovered an illegal pistol at the scene of the incident.
According to the report, the suspect was believed to be an attacker and identified as “an associate of the KDF gang” located in Mount Salem. Notably, officers shot and killed the alleged leader of the KDF gang, Andre ‘Likkle Zullu’ Reid, during an alleged confrontation on Monday. He was also believed to be a mastermind behind the deadly ambush.
Police said another suspect was shot and killed on Monday, who has been identified as Lindel ‘Frass’ Grey, during a separate confrontation around 1:00 a.m. in the division of the Anchovy police.
That brings the total number of suspects linked to the ambush to 4, with only one in custody. The deadly attack last Saturday happened in St James, where the policeman and his family were on the Reading main road. The officer, his wife, and child were all shot when armed men opened fire on them.
His 36-year-old wife, Latoya Stephenson, who worked as a human resource practitioner, died at the scene. The child, who was reportedly shot in the head, and the policeman, who reportedly sustained gunshot injuries to his back, have since been hospitalised, with the son in the intensive care unit.
