Controversial critic and sound system selector Foota Hype has shared that the incident at the Freedom Street concert involving dancehall artiste Popcaan and promoter Skatta Burrell stemmed from an old feud. Foota Hype went on a live stream to share his thoughts about the concert, highlighting the positives and the negatives.
On the negative side was, of course, the conflict between Popcaan and Skatta. Foota Hype claimed that the two disliked each other for some time now and linked his ex-girlfriend, Ishawna, into the drama. According to Foota Hype, the men shared romantic feelings towards Ishawna in the past, leading them to feud. He added that at one point, Popcaan publicly disrespected Skatta at a Ghetto Splash event some years ago.
This, along with the speculation that Popcaan and Ishawna were at some point involved, displeased Skatta. Foota Hype claimed that after multiple years, Skatta seemingly still held on to the resentment and seized the opportunity to get back at Popcaan by obstructing his performance at Freedom Street.
Foota Hype said he was told that when Popcaan and his entourage arrived and the security contacted Skatta through the walkie-talkie, Skatta disregarded Popcaan to “style him…because him a carry feelings from long time.” This resulted in Popcaan being kept outside the venue for hours and prompted him to disrespect Skatta on stage.
“A Ishawna cause the wull a da problem yah now,” Foota stated. Foota Hype apparently did not see a reason for them to have beef, as he pointed out that he did not harbour any bad feelings towards anyone despite sharing a child with Ishawna.
According to Foota, Skatta went for a microphone to tell Popcaan about his mother after Popcaan told him but was stopped by multiple men, including Vybz Kartel, who was seen in a video holding a microphone.
A fight allegedly took place while Popcaan was leaving the stage. Skatta reportedly pushed Popcaan and punched him twice, causing Popcaan’s crew to retaliate and land several kicks on Skatta.
