Footage of a man being run over multiple times in South Africa is circulating the internet. The driver accused of fatally running over the man with a pickup truck has been added to the police’s wanted list, as Gauteng authorities are determined to bring him to justice.
The suspect ran over the man following a heated altercation in Rivonia, Sandton, on April 5, 2025. The dispute began as an argument between the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, and a local shop owner, per police reports.
Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), explained that the altercation escalated when the victim reportedly took a brick and struck the shop owner’s vehicle, causing the windscreen to shatter.
In retaliation, the shop owner exited his shop, entered his pickup truck and deliberately drove over the man several times. This is when an onlooker started to film them, based on the 38-second-long footage. Witnesses can be seen protesting the shop owner’s violent actions; one in particular appears extremely distressed.
According to USA Crime, bystanders, especially the woman, were pleading with the shop owner to stop the vicious attack. The victim remains on the ground, barely moving, as the vehicle continues to run him over.
the distressed woman can be seen screaming, stomping and even seemingly hitting the vehicle with her jacket in an attempt to intervene. After the assault, the shop owner fled the area. When the paramedics arrived on the scene, he could not be saved, based on the report.
“The paramedics declared him dead on the scene,” Colonel Nevhuhulwi said. Nevhuhulwi also is being treated as a murder case, and police are working hard to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. She confirmed that the police are probing all leads thoroughly to locate the suspect. The police have not released the identity of the suspect.
