A 40-year-old German tourist was reportedly attacked by a mob of Thai men. The altercation erupted in a busy area near Central Mall on Pattaya Beach earlier this week. The footage, which was captured by an onlooker, has garnered international attention after circulating on social media platforms.
In the video, the man can be seen surrounded by a group of men who are viciously attacking him in the middle of the street. The German native receives numerous punches, kicks, and strikes from a motorcycle helmet, causing him to fall to the ground multiple times. When the attackers show no sign of stopping or continue to pummel the man on the ground, he starts wailing in pain.
It was later confirmed that the German man was attacked by 10 Thai men and sustained multiple injuries. Following the incident, local law enforcement acted promptly, arresting four individuals in connection with the attack, according to TPM Media.
Three of these suspects, described as young men, claimed they impulsively joined the fray without knowing what happened. The men said they believed the tourist did something wrong to trigger the attack, so they got involved.
The fourth suspect, identified as a 55-year-old motorbike taxi driver named Mr Somchai, turned himself in to the police. In the widely circulated video, Mr Somchai is reportedly the individual striking the tourist with a helmet, per the outlet.
According to the report, Mr Somchai told the authorities that he also does not know the exact cause of the incident but alleges that a German tourist approached a group of Thai men gathered around motorbikes and began shouting aggressively and issuing threats.
He said the German man behaved this way without being provoked. Mr Somchai claims that while he did not instigate the altercation, he reacted when he felt threatened by the escalating situation.
The German visitor maintains that he is as confused by the incident as anyone else, claiming a hazy memory of the confrontation. However, he insists he did nothing to warrant such a violent response.
