A man was hospitalised and then arrested after he was filmed in a brawl that involved multiple weapons in East London. The savage altercation over the Easter weekend occurred in a residential car park in Bethnal Green, where a group of at least four men fought with a knife, a hammer, and a baseball bat.
The violent encounter unfolded on Old Bethnal Green Road at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Daily Mail. The widely circulated video, filmed by an onlooker, shows a man wearing a motorbike helmet sprinting across the car park. As he approaches a black Lexus, two other men can be seen running near him towards the same car. The man in the helmet smashes the rare window with a baseball bat. This leads one of the men to attack him.
The other man, armed with a hammer, also joins the fight and repeatedly strikes the man whose helmet has now been removed in the scuffle. That is when a third man, who had been driving the vehicle, exits with a knife. According to the report, he discarded a red sheath and lunged at the victim with the knife.
As the video continues, the three men can be seen overpowering and beating the victim on the ground. The attackers can be seen fleeing the car park in the Lexus while the victim staggers across the car park. The footage shows the injured man looking at his reflection in a car window, seemingly examining his injuries, before collapsing to the ground while clutching his leg.
The footage shows that he has an open wound on the neck. Nearby residents can be seen rushing to his aid as they use blankets and scarves to apply pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding.
The Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene not long after, per the report. The 28-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds, but his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
In a statement to the East London Advertiser, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that a 28-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply drugs and being concerned in the supply of controlled substances. While the incident is still under investigation, authorities believe the violent outburst was linked to ongoing drug activity in the area.
