Prime Minister-designate Dr Andrew Holness has pledged that the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) historic third consecutive term in office will be defined by renewal, education, and the promise of prosperity reaching more communities across the island.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd of supporters at the party’s Belmont Road headquarters on Wednesday night, Holness said the victory was not just about retaining power but about deepening the JLP’s role as a government committed to performance. “They have spoken and chosen. Those who may not share their views. They see prosperity in some areas, but they want prosperity to come now to their community,” he told the gathering.
The JLP secured 34 of the 63 parliamentary seats, a result Holness described as proof that Jamaicans recognised the government’s efforts to strengthen the economy and create opportunities. But he was also careful to note that the win brought with it a responsibility to deliver more, and faster.
Holness emphasised that the third term would be marked by rejuvenation within the party, with fresh talent being given opportunities to step forward. Holness said the JLP’s third term will focus on renewal, bringing in fresh faces and showcasing emerging talent, stressing that the party must stay vibrant and prepared for the future.
Education was also central to his vision. Holness vowed to continue pushing for a Jamaica where all children can benefit from high-quality education, stressing that an educated and well-informed population is essential to the nation’s future progress.
While many supporters celebrated the historic achievement, Holness reminded them that the real work begins now. “This was not an effortless victory,” he said. “It was a fight, which took discipline and focus.”
For the first time in Jamaica’s political history, the JLP will govern for three consecutive terms, a milestone that Holness says carries both pride and pressure. The people, he stressed, have chosen continuity, and his task now is to ensure that choice leads to visible, lasting results.
