Footage is circulating showing the murder of an Indian shopkeeper, who was gunned down during broad daylight. The victim, identified as Sanjeev Kumar, was sitting inside his shop in Sahibganj, Jharkhand, when two assailants arrived on a motorcycle.
The incident, which unfolded in the Nagar police station area, has left residents reeling, according to a report. Security camera footage capturing the moment has since gone viral on social media.
Police reported that two masked individuals pulled up outside Sanjeev’s shop. One of the men, his face concealed by a black scarf, approached the shopkeeper and casually asked for his name.
Moments after Sanjeev confirmed his identity, the man pulled out a firearm and shot him directly in the chest before fleeing the scene with his accomplice, who hid his face with a red scarf. The sudden gunfire sent customers scampering away and prompted nearby vendors to close their stores, per the report.
In the video, the two suspects can be seen standing near the counter where Sanjeev sits. Two other individuals appear to be customers standing at the counter, one of whom he is interacting with. One of the assailants brandishes his gun and discharges his weapon.
The CCTV camera inside the shop goes on to show the suspects dashing out of the shop while the victim jolts from his seat after being shot. He attempts to chase the attackers but collapses near the entrance. Sanjeev Kumar died from the gun attack, leaving behind a son and daughter.
While an investigation has been launched into the killing, and the police are searching for the suspects, it is unclear if police have identified the attackers. KrudPlug reported that DSP Vijay Kumar Kushwaha vowed to bring the killers to justice.
Following the incident, police patrols have been increased in the area, per the report.
