As Jamaica continues to brace for updates on the missing university student Anisa Dilworth’s case, ride-hailing platform inDrive has stepped forward to clarify its involvement. On Wednesday, the company released a statement saying there’s no evidence she used the app around the time she vanished.
20-year-old Dilworth, who attended the University of Technology, was last seen on May 6 and reported missing the next day. On May 10, a driver affiliated with inDrive was taken into custody in connection with her disappearance. Although still being questioned, he has not been charged.
In response to growing speculation, inDrive recently issued a statement explaining that an internal investigation was launched as soon as reports of Dilworth’s disappearance began circulating online. According to the company, both Anisa and the driver are registered on the platform, but their timelines don’t match up.
“The passenger’s last ride was in 2024,” inDrive shared, “ and the driver’s account was created afterward, confirming that [Anisa] Dilworth could not have booked him for a ride.”
While the company found no suspicious activity linked to the driver’s account, his access has been suspended during the ongoing review. inDrive also confirmed it is working with law enforcement and is prepared to provide any official documentation required.
Over the weekend, human remains were discovered on a beach in Portmore, St Catherine. Investigators believe the body may be that of Dilworth due to evidence found at the scene, the nature of which was not disclosed. Formal identification through forensic analysis is still pending.
The investigation remains active, with detectives pursuing several leads. Amid the growing concern over missing cases, the Jamaica Constabulary Force took to social media to urge the public not to wait twenty-four hours before reporting someone missing. “Every moment matters,” the JCF said, stressing that immediate reporting can make a critical difference.
inDrive extended condolences to Dilworth’s family, adding that passenger safety remains a top priority on its platform.
