Jamaican Dancehall deejay Intence has been facing some criticism after he named fellow deejay Alkaline as his favourite Jamaican artiste. A clip of a recent interview Intence did was shared online and it displeased a number of social media users. The short video features him responding to a question about who his Jamaican favourite artiste is.
Intence thought carefully about the question while smiling before he named Alkaline. He was further asked if the Vendetta deejay greatly inspired him and he affirmed. While he stated that his sound has always been authentic, he indicated that the deejay was an inspiration in his musical journey.
Afterwards, Intence was asked if he believes Alkaline also inspired many other Jamaican entertainers who have not admitted it. Intence agreed, expressing that entertainers may avoid naming Alkaline as their inspiration because they do not want to receive backlash from the public. He also expressed that he may also receive backlash for naming Alkaline because the public might want him to choose another artiste.
Although Intence refrained from saying who the other artiste was, he was seemingly referring to Vybz Kartel, and he indeed received criticism for it. Some viewers left disrespectful comments and called him out to be a liar, claiming that he previously praised Vybz Kartel as his favourite and Shabba Ranks. While others defended him, arguing that he was entitled to his own opinion.
In the past, Intence had reportedly taken shots at Vybz Kartel in multiple songs, such as Havoc featuring IWaata, and Correction. In his single Correction, produced by Crash Dummy and Futuristic Music, he seemingly took jabs at several dancehall artiste, including Vybz Kartel, Jashii, and Sikka Rymes.
The lyrics “No boy cant gimme chat weh nah f*ck suh uno buil…Laugh after dem, ha ha ha ha ha, a nuh me make uno naa get nuh pun na na naa…” were believed to be aimed at Vybz Kartel, who was incarcerated at the time, because he presumably did not have a sex life while in prison.
