For many Jamaicans following the saga of TikToker June “Rosealee” Dixon, the spotlight has now shifted to her partner, Jakes, who has publicly declared his commitment to stepping up for their children. Jake’s efforts to prove stability and readiness as a parent have caught the attention of both supporters and critics online.
Jakes, speaking with local media after the children were placed in state care, expressed that he was devastated after his children were taken away. Days later, he took a big step in purchasing some of the material he would need to secure a new home for his children with the help of his supporters.
Creating a suitable environment for the children might help Jake regain custody of his children based on the legal process. The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has not commented on Rosealee’s case specifically due to the ongoing investigation. However, the agency explained in a general statement that parents are usually required to demonstrate their ability to provide safe and stable care, both physically and mentally, to regain custody of their children.
In some cases, parents may regain custody if they accept counselling or meet court-mandated requirements. If the parents are deemed unfit, the children may be placed in the care of a family member or remain in state care.
The case first reached the courts on September 19. According to the Jamaica Observer, the initial court hearing typically results in a temporary order, often lasting 30 days, while investigations continue. At the end of that period, CPFSA will present its findings in court, and the fate of the children will be decided by the court.
Rosealee and Jakes lost custody of their son and daughter after videos surfaced online in which Rosealee spoke about killing her children, sparking concern among viewers. CPFSA, which said it had received multiple reports in the past, ultimately stepped in and removed the children from her care. CPFSA later stated that she had been uncooperative during earlier investigations.
Meanwhile, Jakes’ determination has become a talking point across social media. He has used TikTok live streams to update supporters on his progress and has received both financial help and encouragement from those who sympathise with his plight.
