The Jamaica Constabulary Force is now facing some intense criticism for a video that surfaced on Tuesday morning, allegedly showing officers obscuring a CCTV camera during an operation. In the video, armed men in police uniforms enter a yard and seemingly begin searching the area.
One of the men stops and looks up at the camera while another changes the direction of the device, pointing it up at the ceiling so that it no longer records their movements.
Notably, the video’s timestamp indicates 9:15 p.m. on July 15, 2025, leaving some to express doubt about its legitimacy and speculate that the correct time was not set prior to the incident. While some viewers questioned the authenticity of the men in the video, asking, “Unu sure a police???” Others firmly believed the individuals were officers and accused them of attempting to obstruct justice.
One commenter, highlighting the timing on the footage, questioned, “How it a show night n we no reach night yet?” expressing doubt about its legitimacy. Another warned, “Troubling the camera only shows their intention,” echoing widespread suspicion.
Many users expressed fear and frustration with law enforcement, calling the video yet another example of intimidation in inner-city communities. Some, however, defended the actions, calling it “standard operating procedure” during high-risk operations to protect officer positions from being revealed.
Numerous comments blasted politicians, particularly Prime Minister Andrew Holness, for enabling what they see as unchecked police abuse. “Big up uno government weh nah fight for our justice system,” one person wrote, while another added, “Jamaica turn communist.” Others took a more practical stance, suggesting residents install hidden cameras to protect themselves.
The footage comes amid the increase in police killings, which has sparked significant concern for many locals. While some take comfort in the spike of deadly police confrontations, others denounce the frequent use of lethal force, citing that the suspects should have their day in court.
A recent report from the Jamaica Star also shared an interview with an alleged gangster who voiced concerns over the deadly operations that police have been conducting. The gangster indicated that police now appear more interested in snuffing out the violence producers rather than taking them into custody. There have been 171 fatal police shootings from January to July 2025, according to reports.
