A 23-year-old soldier from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) lost his life in a tragic motor vehicle accident early this morning (Wednesday, May 28). The victim, Everald Hendricks, died while driving along Camp Road in Kingston when he suddenly crashed.
According to reports from the police, the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Police say Hendricks lost control of his car in the area of Bert’s Auto Parts. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a fence, per a Jamaica Gleaner report. The soldier was later taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Hendricks was identified as a resident of Breadnut Walk in Ginger Hill, St Elizabeth. According to reports, he served in JDF’s Maritime, Air and Cyber Command (MACC). His death has left many grieving, including his fellow soldiers and the wider community.
On social media, many sent condolences and well wishes to his family. Some Instagram users, who were acquainted with the deceased, shared their heartbreak over his sudden passing. One user wrote, “Can’t believe you are gone. Our community is in tears… R.I.P. Tywayne.” Another expressed sadness, saying, “Rest in paradise, my party. Never a dull moment around you. Thank you for being a brother to us. The time we spent – 21/01 – will forever be broken.”
Several comments reflected on the dangers of speeding, especially doing so in vehicles known for their high-powered acceleration. Several people pointed out that he was driving an Allion. Another added, “Sadly from Breadnut Walk, trying to make something of yourself. So sad.” Despite the speculations about speeding, there has been no official statement from the authorities confirming this speculation.
As investigations continue, the JDF and the community are left to mourn the loss of a young man who, according to the comments on Instagram, had been working towards a promising future.
