Chris Brown’s legal troubles may be winding down after the man who accused him of assaulting him with a bottle at a nightclub filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The news of this now sparks speculations that Chris Brown may have paid the alleged victim quite handsomely for the dismissal.
The lawsuit over the alleged assault in Tape nightclub was filed in 2023 by Abe Diaw and is separate from the criminal charges Chris Brown faces over the same incident. The plaintiff filed new documents in Los Angeles on Friday. According to TMZ, he requested that a county judge dismiss the lawsuit with prejudice, a legal move that would prevent the case from being refiled.
While no official statement has been made by either party, dismissing a lawsuit with prejudice often signals that both sides have come to a private agreement, potentially involving a settlement. However, details such as whether Chris Brown paid Diaw remain unclear.
In his original complaint, Diaw claimed that Brown attacked him in the London club. He said a Don Julio 1942 was used as a weapon when Brown allegedly hit him with it three times. The lawsuit also claimed that the entertainer stomped on Diaw. It described the singer’s actions as relentless, saying the stomping continued even while he was lying unconscious on the floor.
He alleged that the incident left him with serious injuries. Following the incident, Diaw filed a lawsuit. Though this development may close the door on the civil case, Brown is not yet in the clear. He still faces criminal charges stemming from the same incident.
The singer was arrested in March at a hotel, shortly after he arrived in the UK ahead of his highly anticipated world tour. Since his arrest, prosecutors have pursued assault and possession of a weapon. He was later released on bail. More than a week ago, Chris Brown appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
