Two neighbours in the Papine community of St Andrew were in a heated altercation that resulted in one of them being shot in the head. The suspect, identified only as a licensed firearm holder, was arrested for a shooting incident that occurred along Tavern Avenue on Tuesday.
Part of the deadly altercation was captured on surveillance camera, which has been widely circulated. The footage captured the victim, identified as 57-year-old Norris Farquharson, who was speed-walking away, but the suspect chased him. An argument ensued, in which the suspect ordered Farquharson to leave his premises. Farquharson, a utility worker dressed in what is believed to be his uniform- a hard hat and workman’s vest- clapped back at the suspect by pointing out that he was not on his property.
He pointed out that they were both standing in the lane. Farquharson challenged the suspect during the dispute, urging him to either strike him or withdraw his gun. The heated altercation took a deadly turn when the suspect brandished his firearm and shot Farquharson, who fell to the ground upon impact.
According to reports, Farquharson was shot twice. After he fell to the ground, the suspect can be heard angrily saying, “A knife yuh draw pan me boi,” while still with the gun in his hand as he spoke to persons who rushed from their homes to see what was happening.
He continued to claim that the victim pulled out a knife while he held his gun. Residents who heard the explosions quickly began to rush to the scene to see what had happened. The victim was pronounced dead after he was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies.
