A 35-year-old Kingston man is facing several criminal charges after a woman was reportedly strangled and robbed on Valentine’s Day. Police said in a late-night attack that left her injured and shaken.
The accused, Christopher Chambers, also known as Zeeks, is from Waltham Park Road in Kingston 13. He was taken into custody after the complainant reported the incident to the Denham Town Police.
The police report says that the alleged attack happened around 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, February 14. Investigators report that the complainant was along West Street when Chambers allegedly walked up to her and attacked her. He is accused of grabbing her and then choking her. After strangling the woman, the violent encounter continued when he pulled out a gun. The report said he began striking the woman with the firearm over and over again.
Before the attacker left the scene, he reportedly stole the woman’s handbag. The report says her bag contained $71,000 in cash and personal items that are said to be worth an additional $20,000. The attacker subsequently fled the scene, leaving the woman injured.
The injuries she sustained led to visible bruises and swelling. Moments after the attack, she was discovered by residents in the surrounding area. The residents learnt of the situation and assisted her to a nearby police station, and the report was made.
Shortly afterwards, the detectives launched a probe into the matter. A day after the report was made, police located Chambers and took him into custody. He has since been charged with assault at common law, robbery with aggravation, possession of a prohibited weapon, using a firearm to commit a felony, unlawful wounding, and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Police have indicated that preparations are being made for his appearance before the court, with a date expected to be announced soon. Authorities have not released additional details as investigations continue.
