A tow truck driver sustained severe injuries after a man drove over his head while attempting to avoid repossession in North Memphis, Tennessee. The disturbing incident, which was caught on camera, occurred on Wednesday at University Gardens Manor Apartments, which is situated off University Street.
The incident unfolded just at 8 a.m. when the tow truck driver was reclaiming a red 2011 Ford Focus, authorities reported. While he was preparing to attach a chain to the vehicle that was flagged for repossession, a man leapt into the car and reversed it, hitting the tow truck driver.
The footage shows the shocking incident that left the tow truck driver screaming in pain. At the beginning of the video, the tow truck driver can be seen pulling the chain from the truck and approaching the car. The suspect abruptly rushes towards the vehicle and enters the vehicle. The tow truck driver proceeds normally by getting on the ground to attach the chain with his head and arm underneath the vehicle.
The car’s engine roars to life, and the suspect reverses the vehicle directly over the tow truck driver’s head and arm. The driver wails in pain as he writhes around on the ground. However, the suspect continues his attempt to leave while a woman appears on the scene.
Despite the tow truck driver’s screams, she focuses on assisting the suspect, guiding the car to exit the parking area. The suspect succeeded in fleeing the scene in the Ford Focus. Meanwhile, the tow truck driver manages to stand and unsteadily walks away.
According to the police, the injured tow truck driver suffered abrasions to his head and severe pain in his arm. He also had a noticeable black mark on the front of his sweatshirt. Reports indicate that he struggled to remain conscious before being transported to Regional One Medical Centre.
Although his injuries are significant, authorities are reportedly optimistic about his recovery. Law enforcement officials have launched an active search for the suspect, who will be formally charged with aggravated assault once apprehended.
