A man was stabbed to death after reportedly discovering that he was not the biological father of a child he had been raising. Reports say the 32-year-old man from Denham Town in West Kingston got into a dispute with his ex-girlfriend.
The quarrel centred on a child the man had long believed to be his own. For years, he reportedly provided care and support, only to later learn that he was not the biological father. That discovery left him angry and demanding that the woman repay him for the years of financial help, according to a resident.
According to the Jamaica Star, the community was tight-lipped over the incident, but one resident recounted that before his death, he had shared his frustrations publicly on social media. The resident indicated that the post, which featured a photo of the woman and a song demanding repayment, intensified the conflict. A woman reportedly lashed out and hurled insults at the man.
According to police, the dispute between the man and his ex-girlfriend turned into a physical altercation with a knife around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. While they both sustained injuries, his were fatal. The woman is accused of stabbing the man multiple times, and he was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital. He suffered stab wounds to his upper body and did not survive his injuries.
The woman was found with injuries on her face, neck, shoulder and left arm. She was arrested and remains in police custody as detectives continue their probe.
The community is still shaken by the incident, and the resident described the man as someone who had openly expressed his disappointment, but the pair never gave the impression that matters would spiral into violence. “Nobody ever expected this,” one resident said quietly. The child is said to be under 6 years old, and the resident said that while he had told the woman she was wrong for the alleged paternity fraud, there was a possibility that she genuinely did not know he was not the father.
