The attack on a party on Sunday night at Cherry Tree Lane, Four Paths, Clarendon, according to Minister of National Security Dr. Horace Chang, may have been related to acts of retaliation from a few years ago.
Eight of the 17 people who were shot died, according to reports. A four-year-old youngster who has been hurt is reportedly in severe condition.
In a statement, Chang conveyed her sincere sorrow and sympathies to the impacted families.
“We are committed to helping the community and our hardworking police officers in their relentless pursuit of justice for the perpetrators of this horrific act.
With a 39% decrease in homicides from the previous year, the police in Clarendon have made great strides. But events like this serve as a reminder that our work is far from done “added the speaker.
“I urge the police to utilise every available resource and power to apprehend the perpetrators swiftly,” Chang stated.
In addition, he urged the citizens of Clarendon and the larger Jamaican community to help law enforcement “as we work together to ensure the safety and security of our communities” by being watchful and cooperative.
