The Montpellier club confirmed this Friday, June 30 the expected departures of several of its players.
Montpellier HSC announced seven departures, this Friday, June 30, the date on which the contracts end. As expected, Valère Germain, Pedro Mendes, Faitout Maouassa but also Mathias Suarez, Matis Carvalho, Bingourou Kamara and Thibault Tamas were thanked by the Hérault club on social networks.
“Good continuation”, wrote the MHSC in a tweet illustrated by a photo of the seven men and concluded with the hashtag “#PailladinUnJourPailladinToujours”.
Germain and Suarez, Mendes and Tamas failures not spared
These adventure endings were mostly expected and talked about for a while. This was for example the case for Valère Germain. Arrived in the summer of 2021, the ex-Marseillais will never have been able to replace Andy Delort or Gaëtan Laborde whom he was supposed to replace. In 68 appearances in all competitions, the striker will have scored only 7 goals (4 assists).

MHSC: the first files of the summer begin for Montpellier
A meager record shared by Mathias Suarez. Recruited in the winter of 2019, the Uruguayan side gave the feeling of never having really recovered from the violent shock suffered during his first tenure during a derby in Nîmes (1-1). Loaned twice, he only wore the Montpellier jersey 12 times.
The adventure of Pedro Mendes, it is in no way comparable. But it will keep the unfinished taste of its last two years. The fault of a serious knee injury, which occurred on April 16, 2021 in Lille (1-1), which cut off the Portuguese defender in his tracks. In total, the ex-Rennais landed in 2017 in the Hérault will have played 115 matches with the MHSC (5 goals).
Injuries have also marred the story of Thibault Tamas. Trained in Montpellier and turned pro in September 2019, the young side (22 years old) will have experienced his first in L1 on June 3 in Reims (1-3).

Maouassa revived, Kamara and Carvalho to replace?
Faitout Maouassa will only have stayed for one season. But he will have succeeded in meeting his challenge: to relaunch after an almost blank year in Belgium. With 34 matches, for 5 goals and 5 assists, the winger or left side has made his loan profitable. But without a purchase option, it ended well. For a return to Bruges and a probable departure elsewhere.
A new impetus that the two goalkeepers Bingourou Kamara and Matis Carvalho will also seek. The first arrived at the end of last summer to compensate for the serious injury of Dimitry Bertaud. In five L1 matches, including one in Clermont marked by two saved penalties (1-1), he will have taken up the gauntlet. Released, he should commit to Pau (L2). As for Carvalho, trained at the TFC, he participated in three L1 matches, notably replacing a Bertaud expelled from the Parc des Princes in February 2020 (5-0).
Will these two departures be compensated? Only one of them? From now on, the MHSC has in any case two guards, Benjamin Lecomte and Dimitry Bertaud. But the latter aspires to more playing time. President Laurent Nicollin has given him a deadline to find a new challenge. Or stay.
