The body of a 21-year-old woman was found in a cesspit in Clarendon on Sunday after her boyfriend allegedly hid it. The discovery was made on the property of a home in the Milk River community, where residents gathered to watch officers and firefighters recover the body.
The deceased, Derricka Rodgers, who was reported missing on May 27, was found dead when her body was pulled out of the pit; it was revealed to be wrapped in a sheet. The body was recovered on camera as several individuals at the scene were streaming live on TikTok.
Among the spectators at the scene were Rogers’s family, friends, and co-workers, all of whom were saddened and enraged. Police had to keep everyone at bay while they investigated the area.
According to the reports, the body was found after persons searching for Rodgers observed that there was fresh cement around the pit. After the deceased was retrieved, she was reportedly positively identified by her father at the scene. The deceased, also known as ‘Murfy’, is employed at a print shop and resides in Gravel Hill, Clarendon.
Officers also found belongings like her phone and bag inside the pit. They were taken into custody as evidence, and police have since launched a search for the victim’s boyfriend.
Reports say Rodgers went missing last Tuesday after she left home. She reportedly told people she was heading to her boyfriend’s house. Police heard that she was last seen alive at the Milk River taxi stand. Her family became concerned when they were unable to get in touch with her.
The police have not yet confirmed some circulating allegations. One allegation states that her boyfriend allegedly fled the island after fatally wounding her and placing her body in the pit. Another allegation says that her father and others, looking for her, smelled a foul odour, leading them to the freshly sealed pit with her decomposing body.
It also alleged that persons close to her received messages from her saying she was with him before she died. A voicenote surfaced allegedly from Rodgers to her cousin, saying she is with her boyfriend in Milk River.
