The remains of an Israeli man who was attacked by a shark were found. Authorities confirmed the swimmer was killed by the shark following an extensive two-day search operation. Divers, drone units, and underwater cameras were used to find the missing swimmer.
The victim, identified as Barak Tzach, was swimming along the country’s Mediterranean coastline when he was attacked. Footage of the attack was captured by helpless beachgoers who stood watching the man thrashing his arms in the water and crying for help.
He could be heard shouting that the shark was biting him, and blood could be seen in and around him in the water before he eventually vanished underwater when the shark pulled him further out to sea. According to officials, Tzach was swimming near Hadera, an area frequented by dusky and sandbar sharks due to the power plant nearby producing warm water.
According to reports, Tzach was in his 40s and fathered four children. He was also married, and his wife, Sarit Tzach, spoke out in a Facebook post following the rare shark attack. Sarit said the deceased went snorkelling with an underwater camera to document the sharks, not to feed or play with them. She added that it was her husband’s first time swimming in the area.
According to her post, he used a camera stick to gently distance the animals when they came too close. He was reportedly making his way back to shore when the attack occurred. The beach, which had been crowded due to the weeklong holiday, was closed off following the attack, along with neighbouring coastal areas.
Despite a swimming ban in place at the location, visitors have recently been entering the water to swim and experience close encounters with sharks. Videos circulating show beachgoers swimming within close range of the sharks, sharks swimming around children, and people tugging on their tails and also throwing food to attract them. In one alarming video, a swimmer appears to be attacked, though authorities have not confirmed whether it depicts the fatal encounter.
