Two women were shot, one fatally, at their home in St Andrew after they returned from the airport. The victims are identified as the mother, who is hospitalised, and her daughter, who died.
The deceased was confirmed to be 26-year-old Maya Ashley, who was reportedly an accountant. The identity of her mother was not released, but unofficial reports say she is 49 years old.
The shooting occurred in Patrick City in the early hours of Friday morning, according to reports. Ashley went to the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, where she picked up her mother. The gun attack unfolded when the two women pulled up at their residence on Appleton Avenue at about 4:45 a.m. Moments after they arrived, gunfire erupted.
Residents in the community reported hearing what sounded like multiple loud blasts shortly after the women reached the property. The sounds, believed to have been gunshots, prompted concern among neighbours. After the shots subsided, the mother and daughter were found with injuries. Graphic footage obtained by Moon 10 shows that at least one of the victims was ambushed before they could exit the car.
Emergency responders were alerted, and the victims were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Ashley later succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, her mother survived the attack and continues to receive medical treatment at the hospital. Her current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Following the incident, the mother’s husband has been named a person of interest. The Hunts Bay police are leading the investigation and have launched a search for the man.
