Police in Portmore, St Catherine, are investigating a deadly domestic incident after a mother was killed and her daughter injured during an attack at their home on Monday morning.
Preliminary reports indicate the incident happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. along Marlin Way in the Braeton community. Moon-10 understands that the mother was fatally chopped inside the home. The mother died at the location, while her daughter was taken to hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been confirmed.
Police say the suspect, who is believed to be mentally unstable, fled the house immediately after the attack. Residents in the community reportedly intervened soon afterward and helped to detain him within the area.
Law enforcement officers were alerted to the situation and responded to the scene, where an investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Details remain limited as investigators continue to gather information.
The Braeton killing comes just over a week after another chopping incident that shocked residents in May Pen, Clarendon. In that case, caregiver Jennifer Williamson, 46, died following an attack at her home on February 8.
According to police reports, Williamson was inside her bedroom at a house on Glenmuir Drive when the incident occurred. Her 12-year-old son reportedly heard her crying out for help and rushed to the room but was unable to open the door. Investigators indicate that Williamson’s spouse, a fruit vendor named Tony Thompson, was inside the locked room at the time.
Police say Thompson later opened the door and fled the house. After entering the room, the child discovered his mother covered in blood and ran outside seeking help from neighbours. Residents recalled seeing the boy in distress as he called for assistance in the community.
When Williamson was transported to a hospital, she was pronounced dead. Police say Thompson remains wanted and have appealed for him to turn himself in.
