Residents at Palm Grove Court plunged into mourning following the murder of a 14-year-old girl who was viciously assaulted and stabbed several times. The young teen, identified as Price Johnson, was attacked yesterday (February 6) when an intruder broke into her home.
According to a report, the intruder, who is allegedly mentally ill, forcefully entered Johonson’s apartment in Palm Grove on Spanish Town Road. Upon entering, he “sexually assaulted her” and stabbed her repeatedly.
Johnson sounded an alarm, alerting a man who rushed in to save her. The man was also stabbed when he accosted the intruder, who escaped. Johnson was reportedly asleep in the apartment before the attack.
Johnson, a ninth-grade student of Haile Selassie High School, was transported to Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). However, she did not survive the attack and was pronounced dead.
The Jamaica Observer reported that Johnson lived in the apartment with her mother and younger brother. Her mother, Eugene Wade, was shocked by the savage attack and was overcome with tears Thursday evening. The news report added that she was wailing to God in grief during an interview, saying, “Father God, a you mi live fah, God; mi lift mi hand to you, so why my little girl? Weh mi do, God, weh mi do?”
Wade expressed that she did not know the killer, indicating that she had never seen him around the area. She also explained that her door was not completely closed as she would often leave it that way.
Johnson was described as quiet, well-mannered, and a “promising young lady” by a resident of the apartment complex. One resident also shared with the news outlet that they have never witnessed such a horrific crime throughout the 15 years they have been living there.
The police were called to the residence around 1:59 p.m., according to the Jamaica Observer, citing a statement from Superintendent Damion Manderson, head of the St Andrew South Police Division. Manderson added that Johnson had “apparently been sexually molested and wounded.”
Manderson explained that the police realized she was still alive upon doing checks, took her to the service vehicle, and transported her to KPH.
An investigation has been launched, and the police are now working closely with the residents and the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, per the report.
