A 35-year-old mother of two met the same tragic end as her husband when she was gunned down in Peru over the weekend. The victim, identified as Deysi del Rosario Arellano Castillo, was killed on the roadside in the community of Carabayllo.
Arellano Castillo was shot multiple times by a hitman shortly before 2 p.m. on Camino Real Avenue near the “Chaperito” bus stop on Saturday, per a report. The shooting was captured on security footage that has surfaced online.
In the video, Arellano Castillo can be seen walking along the sidewalk in an oversized white t-shirt when a man wearing grey pants, a jacket, and a blue cap quickly approaches her. He seemingly comes from across the road and swiftly brandishes a handgun.
According to the report, he opened fire on her without uttering a word. After firing multiple shots, he quickly fled the scene, leaving the victim motionless on the pavement. Reports confirmed that Arellano Castillo succumbed to her injuries. This brief and deadly assault comes several months after her husband was fatally shot by gunmen.
According to reports, Arellano Castillo was a local fruit vendor and a mother of two young children, ages 8 and 11. Her husband, a minibus driver, was murdered last year. His identity was not disclosed in the report. Additionally, the details surrounding her husband’s murder are unclear as there is limited information. Their children are now left orphaned after losing both parents to gun violence.
Local law enforcement, along with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, has launched an investigation into the killing. Detectives are working to identify the assailant captured on surveillance. According to USA Crime, the authorities have yet to determine a definitive motive. However, it mentioned that the incident may be linked to extortion or turf disputes between rival criminal gangs, based on reports.
