Footage has surfaced of a thief being shot by a police officer immediately after robbing a young woman in Brazil. The robber was shot four times before he could flee the scene on his motorcycle. The incident occurred in Manaus and was captured by a security camera in the Monte das Oliveiras neighbourhood of the North Zone earlier this year.
The footage was shared on X on April 9 and has since amassed thousands of views. According to a report, the thief was riding a red Honda motorcycle, dismounted on the side of the road and aggressively approached the female victim, whose identity has not been disclosed.
The suspect reportedly accosted the woman in the street and demanded that she hand over her belongings. The victim can be seen handing him something in the footage and walking off. Meanwhile, the suspect heads back to his motorcycle and mounts it.
Before he could leave the area, a nearby police officer acted decisively. The officer was reportedly monitoring the unfolding scene from inside his residence. The footage shows the officer stepping out of his home and firing four shots, striking the suspect and halting his escape.
In the video, he moves towards the suspect, who’s on the ground after being shot, and demands his surrender. “Put your hands on your head, damn it!” he shouts, according to a post. To the victim who ran when she heard the shots, the police reportedly said. “This is the police. Don’t worry, lady, this is the police.”
Based on the footage, the officer ensures the victim’s safety while maintaining control over the situation. The robber can be heard pleading for his life as he lay on the ground, per the report. The report did not disclose the condition of the suspect, as there is limited information from authorities.
