A motorcyclist was filmed engulfed in flames after a collision in Massachusetts, on Monday evening. The male motorcyclist, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered severe burns after struggling to put out the flames.
Reports state that a motorcycle and a motor vehicle collided on Interstate 93 South near Andover. The crash occurred around 6:35 p.m. near the River Road exit and Interstate 495 interchange. The report details that only one person involved in the crash was transported to the hospital.
According to officials, Andover Fire Rescue and Massachusetts State Police arrived at the scene to find the motorcyclist fully engulfed in flames. The video shows the rider attempting to put out the flames, but his clothes continue to burn. He drops on rolls multiple times, and even onlookers rush to his aid with blankets, but the ruthless flames clung to him.
Although he is engulfed, the motorcyclist appears to be calm and can be seen along the road before resuming his efforts to put out the flames on grassland along the side of the road. in the audio, n onlooker can be heard expressing his shock at the blazing rider. The motorcyclist continued to blaze until firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.
A second fire engine was dispatched to assist in establishing a landing zone for a medical helicopter to transport the victim to a hospital. To accommodate the helicopter’s landing and departure, both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-93 were temporarily closed for approximately 30 minutes.
The helicopter lifted off from the scene at 7:20 p.m. and arrived at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, just seven minutes later at 7:27 p.m.
Scanner reports indicated that the victim sustained multiple traumatic injuries in addition to the burns. No other injuries were reported from the crash, and the driver of the car involved was not mentioned in the report.
