A disturbing video of a man taking his wife’s life before killing himself is making the rounds on the internet. The pair have been identified as an estranged Turkish couple who were going through a divorce.
The man, 40-year-old Cengiz Altınel, shot both his wife, 32-year-old Pınar Altınel, and himself in the head at a restaurant in the community of Etyemez, located in Alaçam, Turkey. The horrifying scene unfolded on April 24 when Altınel appeared at the restaurant area of a local gas station where his wife was employed, according to local Turkish news outlet Mardin Life.
The media reported that the couple had been living separately for some time. The divorce was filed by Pınar, but Cengiz disagreed with ending their marriage. On the day of Pinar’s murder, Cengiz approached her under the pretence of only wanting to speak to her, per the report. However, he became agitated, and a dispute unfolded between the two, leading to the murder-suicide.
Video footage, captured by the restaurant’s surveillance camera, shows Pınar clearing a table before Cengiz walks up to her. He briefly speaks with her and then suddenly grabs her with his arm around her neck while his other hand brandishes a firearm.
Others in the restaurant flee the scene when he starts waving the gun, warning nearby individuals to stay back. One man seemingly tries to de-escalate the situation, but Cengiz aims the gun at him, prompting him to run away. Cengiz presses the gun to his wife’s head and fires a single shot, causing Pınar to collapse on the ground. Seconds later, he turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger.
The pair were later pronounced dead. Mardin Life reported that the couple had been married for nine years and had no children. While Cengiz had resisted the divorce proceedings, Pınar had moved forward with the separation.
