A man shot and killed his uncle in St Catherine following a property dispute. The shooting reportedly happened after the deceased nephew used a machete to chop his uncle, prompting a violent altercation on Tuesday.
According to the Jamaica Star, the men were at the uncle’s residence in Swamp Lane, Bog Walk. The deceased nephew, Demar Facey, who also lives in the community, was engaged in a heated argument with his uncle around 8:30 a.m.
The argument stemmed from a piece of property that both men wanted. It is alleged that during the altercation, Facey armed himself with a machete and launched at his uncle. The uncle, whose identity has not been revealed, owns a licensed firearm, and he fired his weapon at Facey.
According to the report, the two men were injured during the violent altercation. They were rushed to the Linstead Hospital for treatment. Shortly after they were both hospitalised, Facey was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the uncle remains admitted and continues to receive medical treatment for his injury.
A rumour circulating alleges that Facey had been planning the attack for some time. It is said that the dispute over the property has been ongoing for several days leading up to the attack. It is alleged that Facey had sharpened the machete to chop his uncle; it happened when he went to the uncle’s residence.
The altercation, according to rumours, reportedly happened inside the uncle’s house. Additional rumours say the uncle sustained a chop to the head before he shot Facey, but the allegations do not specify where the bullet struck. These rumours have not yet been confirmed by the police.
The condition of the uncle is also unclear, as there are limited details about the incident. The incident is currently being investigated by Bog Walk Police in the St Catherine North Division.
