Queen of rap Nicki Minaj and dancehall artiste Skeng warmed many hearts this week when their team distributed relief supplies to residents severely affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.
The duo’s goodwill effort saw Minaj’s crew, representing The Barbz Foundation, partnering with Skeng to deliver essentials to the residents of western Jamaica who lost homes and belongings during the storm. Packages containing food items, stoves, and cooking gas were handed out to families, as seen in videos circulating on social media.
Though Minaj was not present in person, her message of love and solidarity reached far and wide. She posted on X confirming that their outreach would continue, writing, “Plus tmrw & possibly longer. One Love, Jamaica. Love you,” along with the Jamaican flag and a red heart emoji. Fans praised her for providing aid to those struggling in the aftermath of the hurricane.
Minaj and Skeng’s gesture touched many, and they were not the only entertainers stepping forward to help. Vybz Kartel, through his Adidja Palmer Foundation, launched a similar relief mission across sections of St James, Westmoreland, and Hanover. His team distributed care packages and visited the World Central Kitchen site at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, where meals are being prepared for hurricane victims. Kartel, who recently returned to the island, expressed that he intends to continue supporting communities as recovery efforts progress.
In another part of the island, Spice mobilised her Grace Hamilton Women Empowerment Foundation to assist residents of Bethel Town in Westmoreland. The artiste rented ten trucks loaded with building materials, including zinc, cement, lumber, and hurricane straps, to help families rebuild their homes. She also arranged for roadways blocked by fallen trees to be cleared with the help of heavy equipment.
Spice publicly thanked members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who escorted her team, calling the collaboration a powerful example of unity and service.
Several other well-known figures, such as Sean Paul, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Masicka, Bounty Killer, DJ Khaled, and Shenseea, have also shown support, with Shenseea noting she plans to contribute after completing her current projects.
