A man was gunned down after he stabbed a police sergeant in the neck inside a restaurant. The incident occurred Saturday night in North Carolina, and footage from the sergeant’s body camera has been released by the police.
According to a report, begins with Sgt. Noah Kocher at Arby’s restaurant on Mansfield Avenue in Shelby. He casually entering the restaurant and inquires about the location of a man named Tyler Jacobs, whom he and his partner are apparently searching for.
The video obtained by Moon-10 begins when Kocher is telling his partner to secure the back door of the restaurant. Seconds later, a man can be seen approaching the sergeant behind the counter.
As the video continues, Kocher converses with the man, asking if he knows why he is there and adding, “You know you’ve got a warrant for arrest, Tyler.” Jacobs enquired about the reason for the warrant, prompting Kocher to tell him that the arrest warrant was for missing a court date.
It was at that moment Jacobs swung his right arm at the sergeant, stabbing him in the neck. Despite the stab wound, the sergeant quickly discharges his gun and shoots Jacobs several times. According to the report, Jacobs was running towards Sgt. Kocher with the knife when he started shooting.
Shortly after, Jacobs can be seen lying on the ground while Kocher reports he is bleeding from his neck and needs help. Kocher was transported to the hospital, and he has since been discharged. The sergeant is currently on paid leave while the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is probing the incident.

31-year-old Jacobs has had multiple run-ins with the police, which go as far back as 2017. Jacob’s previous legal issues include a crash caused by drunk driving in 2021. More recently, Jacobs crashed his bike into an officer’s cruiser while he was attempting to escape the police in October.
According to a report, the officer and Sgt. Kocher was less than a mile from Arby’s when Jacobs was seen riding his bike without a light across the road. When the other officer tried to get him to stop, he crashed. The report also mentioned that Jacob had $8,000, cell phones, SIM cards, a laptop, face covering, gloves, and a knife in a backpack.
