A policeman was caught on camera shooting a motorist during a road rage incident in Wawayanda, New York. The officer, 33-year-old Anthony Simon, was off-duty around 3:45 p.m. last Thursday when he was driving along Dolsontown Road near McVeigh Road.
Simon, an officer of the Kingston Police Department, was driving a Toyota pickup and got into conflict with a Volkswagen. Reports say that both drivers were cutting each other off on the road until the Volkswagen driver, 31-year-old Wallace Fisher of Middletown, suddenly stopped in the road to confront Simon.
The roadside encounter quickly spiralled out of control. According to authorities, Fisher exited his vehicle and walked toward Simon’s truck, approaching the driver’s side window. A verbal argument broke out between the two men as traffic slowed in the area.
The driver behind them captured the heated exchange on a cellphone. Investigators say the confrontation escalated when Fisher allegedly produced a knife and made a striking motion toward Simon. In response, Simon brandished his firearm and opened fire at Fisher, shooting him twice. The video circulating online shows the moment shots were fired.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Fisher was rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his neck and shoulder. He has been admitted to the Westchester Medical Center, where officials described his condition as critical but stable. The stretch of road where the shooting occurred was temporarily secured as law enforcement probes the scene.
New York State Police have taken the lead in probing the incident, working to piece together the moments before and after the shooting. At this stage, no criminal charges have been filed against the off-duty officer. The Kingston Police Department confirmed that Simon was placed on administrative duty, a standard procedure while investigations of this nature are ongoing. According to the department, Simon has been working there since 2022.
