An Ohio man was arrested for allegedly killing a deputy after his son was fatally shot by an officer. The accused, Rodney Hinton Jr, reportedly ran over a deputy with his vehicle less than 24 hours after his son’s death. The incident happened on Friday morning after Hinton and his family watched police body cam footage leading up to his son’s demise, according to the New York Post.
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa A. Theetge showed the grieving family the footage of Ryan Hinton and two other suspects. All three were suspected of car theft. Police caught Ryan Hinton, Hinton’s 18-year-old son, and the two other suspects with the stolen vehicle in the East Price Hill section of Cincinnati.

Reports say the vehicle was located on Thursday after the owner used an installed tracking device to identify its location. When the suspects spotted the approaching officers, they ran off, prompting a foot chase, which was captured on the bodycam. The New York Post cited a report from the family’s lawyer, Michael Wright, that said Ryan was shot and killed when Cincinnati police believed the teen had a gun.
An officer also said that Ryan aimed a gun at him, leading the officer to shoot the 18-year-old two times, one in the chest and the other in the arm. While it is unclear if Ryan had discharged his firearm, the officer, who is now on paid administrative leave, said that the gun was loaded.

The attorney also said Hinton was far too distraught to watch the entirety of the footage and left before it ended. Two hours after viewing the clip, Hinton reportedly used his vehicle to mow down a retired sheriff’s deputy. The former deputy succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The deceased deputy, who had retired in December 2024, was doing a directing traffic gig he returned to do when he was killed. Hinton was arrested and is now facing an aggravated murder charge. He made his first court appearance on Saturday, per the report.
