A video is circulating of a brawl that erupted between a group of adults, said to be parents, at a kindergarten in Arkansas. The brawl occurred during a graduation ceremony at Faulk Elementary School, located in West Memphis, on May 28. Students and parents were left stunned when a heated verbal altercation took a violent turn in the corridor.
The video captures a group of women bickering in the hallway while students and other adults watch. Among the onlookers are also two men, who initially seem to act as mediators, standing nearby. When the situation spirals out of control into a fight, the men, who appear to be trying to keep the peace, engage in the brawl.
During the melee, the sound of distressed children fills the background as they cry and plead for the fighting to stop. However, their pleas fell on deaf ears as the adults continued to throw punches, snatched off one woman’s wig, and left a man with a stretched-out shirt. Fortunately, no one sustained any serious injuries.
Some adults who apparently did not care to be spectators began to leave the scene. The brawl at the kindergarten graduation eventually ended and has since been strongly condemned by the West Memphis School District. In a statement posted to Facebook, Superintendent Eric Foister emphasised the district’s zero-tolerance policy for violence on school grounds.
“Such actions are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the statement read. The statement detailed that the district is working with the police to detain those involved.
According to FOX13, Foister told the media that the district is reviewing additional footage from the school’s cameras and has already provided the names of those involved to law enforcement. Additionally, he will be pursuing charges against those involved, and he intends to ban the adults involved from being on school property.
He also stressed that while parents may be restricted from school, children will still have access to their education without punishment for their parents’ actions.
