A pastor popularly known as “Sniper Prophet,” has expressed his love for Vybz Kartel’s music while noting that he would certainly not miss the concert on December 31. The pastor, Jahmar Watson, shared that he will cancel his church’s Watch Night service to attend the highly anticipated Freedom Street Concert.
Watson explained that he could attend the event because Watch Night is “just a cultural thing.” He told the Jamaica Star that he initially thought Watch Night was a religious occasion in which persons sought out Jesus Christ. However, as he got older, he did not believe that to be the case.
He told the news outlet, “So if I can go to the Kartel show, you don’t know what can happen there and then. I can be stretching my hands in prayer while he is on the stage performing. I think I’m going to cancel the Watch Night service just for that day. Just to attend the Kartel show.”
Watson is no stranger to making controversial statements, as he is well known for his outspokenness. He candidly shared that he always plays the Dancehall icon’s music in his bedroom and his favourite songs Life We Living and Turn and Whine. “Kartel haffi play in my bedroom, and that nah change,” he continued.
Unbothered by the criticism that he may receive, he expressed that he was not going to act holier and more righteous than anyone else. He also encouraged other pastors to join him and attend the dancehall concert.
“I am personally inviting all the pastors to come to Vybz Kartel’s show,” he said, adding that if Vybz Kartel should ever become a Christian, he will influence many younger people to do the same. Watson also referenced Minister Marion Hall, noting that God can do the same to Vybz Kartel.
While expressing that he would be going to the concert to hear his favourite song, he mentioned that he wanted to see Vybz Kartel saved.
Another church leader did not share the same sentiment as Watson. Christians are urged to stay away from the concert by Bishop Dr Alvin Bailey, who is the head of the Holiness Christian Church and president of the Jamaica Evangelical Alliance. Bailey expressed that Christians were looking forward to Watch Night to go into the new year with “God’s help, God’s protection, and God’s guidance.’
