The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is moving quickly to track down eight inmates who broke out of the Constant Spring Police Lock-up on August 19. Nine prisoners managed to escape, but one has already been recaptured. The men reportedly cut through a metal grille and door to make their way out.
The man back in custody has been identified as 45-year-old David Rhoden, who is a resident of Malvern Avenue, Kingston. The remaining eight are still on the run, prompting an urgent islandwide operation by the police to return them to custody.
The men who escaped were all facing serious charges, ranging from murder and rape to possession of prohibited weapons, identity theft, and burglary. Among them are 18-year-old Fray, a resident of Messias of Stony Hill who is facing a rape charge; 19-year-old Alunzo Espute from the Cassava Piece community who is charged with murder; and 19-year-old Richard Bishop, an Olympic Way resident charged with burglary and larceny.
Other escapees include:
- 27-year-old Brandon Ennis of Red Hills is facing charges of possessing a prohibited weapon.
- 23-year-old Talik Chambers of Burlington Avenue, Kingston 10, is accused of identity theft.
- 25-year-old Dorique Douglas, a resident of Upper Oxford Street, Kingston, is facing multiple charges, including wounding with intent, shooting with intent, and malicious destruction of property.
- 31-year-old Junior Anthony Barnes of Iron River, Golden Spring, was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised ammunition.
- 25-year-old Kamal Kelly from the Mannings Hill District in St Andrew. He is facing a charge of shooting with intent.
In response, the JCF has ramped up its efforts across the island. Senior officers have confirmed that resources are being redirected to support the manhunt, stressing that the situation is being handled with the “highest level of urgency”.
Authorities are appealing to the public to assist in recapturing the men. Persons with information are urged to contact the Constant Spring Police at 876-924-1421, the police emergency number 119, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest station. Citizens are also being reminded that harbouring fugitives is a criminal offence.
Additionally, JCF has reassured Jamaicans that every effort is being made to restore order and ensure the escapees are quickly returned to custody.
